Scientists developing edible, sustainable food packaging

Up to 40 percent of food around the world goes to waste, and still there are over 800 million people on earth going hungry. Now scientists say the new edible form of packaging they’re developing will help to cut both food and plastic waste. The new packaging film is being tested by the American Chemical Society. Made of a milk protein, it looks just like the normal plastic wrapping but is better at protecting your food from oxygen.\r\n\r\nEdible and biodegradable food wrappers are already on the market in some areas, but made of starch. Research study leaders expect the milk protein packaging to be in stores by 2020.\r\n
